Our Team – Working for Environmental Solutions

Harry Cohen-Founder

Waste disposal is in Harry Cohen’s blood - literally. As a third generation solid waste and recycling professional, Harry's family-based company was founded on the skills and values handed down from Harry's grandfather to his father and then to him.

In 1930, Harry Cohen's grandfather rented a horse and wagon for $2 a day and hit the streets peddling for rags, paper, metal, magazines and other resourceful items he could sell to the paper and steel mills.

While technology and times have changed, our commitment to our clients and to advancing environmental solutions has not. With more than 80 years of experience, we will help your company meet and exceed your recycling goals.

"It’s not about the money," says Harry. "It’s about environmental stewardship. My hope is to one day leave a legacy that my children would be proud of, and to help others do the same".

David Kohn-President - Louisville, Kentucky

David Kohn has been stitched in the Louisville, Kentucky community his entire life. Born and raised in Louisville, David returned to his hometown immediately after graduating from Indiana University in 1991.

After selling insurance for a brief time, David opened the first and only day-trading office in Louisville. Then David moved on to the mortgage industry and developed and grew his own new territory, which increased the regional market from nothing to more than $20 million per month in loan originations. He oversaw the wholesale mortgage operations for Kentucky and southern Indiana while at the same time training brokers on technology, products and the loan approval/closing process. David then started yet another company called MedRepairNow, which brokers medical equipment repairs for hospitals and surgical facilities.

As you have probably intuited by now, it’s no surprise that David jumped at the opportunity to bring organic recycling to Louisville. He believes that there is a great opportunity to close the sustainability circle with the final missing piece of organic recycling.

I believe that organic recycling is a huge opportunity because so few people are doing it right now,” David says. “But they should because it’s being offered in an easy, efficient and achievable model. I’m also excited to finally have a chance to do something that is benefiting the community and environment that I live in".

Harry and the rest of the Blue Skies Recycling team look forward to providing environmental solutions to businesses for achieving their recycling goals and doing their part to contribute to the green movement.
